Since 1995, Paul Frank and his friends were carefully stitching together a vast assortment of colorful wallets and handbags with wacky characters such as Julius the monkey and Skurvy the skeleton. These colorful items were originally made as gifts for friends and family. However, no one would have ever guessed that these items would gain massive popularity or that the company would launch itself into extreme success almost overnight. In 1997, Paul Frank Industries was officially created in Southern California. The unique use of Naugahyde, which was a vinyl material typically used for making seats in automobiles and extremely hard to come by, made Paul Frank’s bags unique from everyone else’s. Even now, Paul Frank still uses this one-of-a-kind material in his most premium selection each season.
As the company expanded, Paul Frank began producing their own clothing line along with a few side projects with many well known musicians. One of these side projects included designing guitar straps for many famous bands including the White Stripes, Foo Fighters, and even Weezer. More recently, Paul Frank has opened a number of retail stores all over the world. Along with US retail stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, Paul Frank also has international stores in London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Bangkok, Athens, and even Japan. But with all this fame and success, Paul Frank still strives to give back to the community by investing in charities such as Festival of Children, Boarding for Breast Cancer, The Elton John AIDS Foundation, First Book and The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
